Sylvan-Lucas’ Harlee Nelson – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Wildlife Properties Land Co.

Serving as the lead-off batter for Sylvan-Lucas for the last two years, Harlee Nelson is hoping to use her experience to help mold the incoming freshman.

“I am looking forward to helping the incoming freshmen improve their skills and have a fun year,” Nelson said. “I try to be a leader by helping my teammates out. I just love this sport and I would like to be the best that I possibly can be.”

Aside from being a talented lead-off batter with her strong awareness of pitch movement and ability to make good decisions, Nelson was also the lone pitcher last year for Sylvan-Lucas.

“She had to be both mentally and physically strong because there was no one to relieve her.  Harlee has played club ball during the summer months for many years, gaining knowledge and skill in this sport.  She is a leader for the team because of her confidence on the mound and in the batter’s box,” head coach Linda Haring said.

Playing 23 games last year Nelson racked up some impressive statistics. Nelson last year stole 52 bases as well as racked up 130 strikeouts and finished the season with a .495 on-base percentage, which shows how well-rounded of a player she is.

Nelson wants to continually improve and has been putting in the work to become a better player, with hopes of playing college ball.

“I would like to improve on my hitting and be a stronger hitter. I have been doing a lot of different drills and also have been breaking down my swing. My personal goal is doing what I need to do to help the team, and helping my team improve,” Nelson said. “If the opportunity arises I would love to play softball in college.”
