Salina Sacred Heart’s Luke Newell – Golf Poll Winner – Presented by Salina Tech

Salina Sacred Heart golfer Luke Newell placed in the top five last season at the Class 2A Tournament, but that has not stopped him from focusing on ways to improve for his senior season.

“One area that I want to improve on this year is my driving ability off the tee,” Newell said. “I have been really good with my irons all the way down to my putter and it’s just my driving ability that needs to be put together better in order to perform my best.”

For nine straight seasons, the Knights have taken home the team title at state. Newell wants to accomplish that and more in 2025.

“Some of my goals for this season are to maintain a scoring average of 75 or lower,” Newell said. “Another one is to win state as a team for the 10th consecutive year in a row. Finally, I want to win state as an individual this year and break the streak of taking third individually every year.”

Newell has a perk in his life that allows him to work on his game all year long.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to work at clubhouse golf because it allows me to come in whenever I’m not working to improve my game,” Newell said. “So, having that has been a key asset to my preparation for this upcoming season.”
