Berean Academy’s Flora Morgan – Athlete Spotlight Presented By Visit Wichita

After a season where the Berean Academy girls won a state championship, Flora Morgan and the rest of her teammates have another one in mind.

Morgan is a senior shooting guard for the Warriors and a player many would call the “glue player” because she holds up the team on the court.

“Flora is a competitor and not afraid to do the hard work that doesn’t come with a lot of glory,” head coach Kristin Wiebe said. “She is our defensive stopper, and she’s also really been working to expand her offensive game this past off-season.”

The senior has been training all off-season with hall-of-fame basketball coach Rocky Lamar, who was the long-time coach at Mid-America Nazarene, where he accumulated over 800 wins. Now, Lamar is the interim head coach at Bethel College.

“Last year, I was primarily a leader defensively,” Morgan said.

Wiebe describes Morgan as a leader who always plays hard.

“I am a quick, scrappy, aggressive guard,” Morgan said. “To me, toughness means giving your all in every aspect of the game in every circumstance. It means defensively taking on any player, rebounding, and meeting the needs of the team.”

The senior has done just that her whole career, and now, as a senior, her leadership role has increased as well.

“This summer as a senior, I have had to lead more offensively along with defensively,” Morgan said.
