Gabe Standfast, a senior from McPherson, is heading into his final high school soccer season with high goals and even higher motivation. As the team’s goalkeeper, Standfast plays a crucial role in both performance and leadership, and he’s focused on being the best version of himself on and off the field.
One of Standfast’s biggest individual accomplishments came through hard work and solo training in preparation for Keeperwars Nationals, a prestigious goalkeeper event. Standfast shared with Vype Magazine, “It showed me I can achieve anything I set my mind to.”
Last season, Standfast recorded an impressive 117 saves and five shutouts, but one game in particular stands out to Standfast. It was the matchup against 5A powerhouse Hutchinson High School. “I had 17 saves and only allowed one goal,” he recalls. “We tied 1-1, and I was proud because I stayed confident and believed in myself the whole game.”
This season, Standfast is focused not only on his own performance but also on the success of the entire team. His goals include making a run to the state tournament, strengthening team chemistry, and building a brotherhood among teammates. “I’m really looking forward to away games and getting to play alongside my friends,” he says.
Outside of soccer, Standfast is a member of his school’s Worship Team, showing his commitment to personal growth and leadership in all areas of life.
Looking ahead, Standfast plans to sign with a major college program this winter or spring to continue his soccer journey. With his determination, faith, and standout skills as a goalie, there’s no doubt he’s ready for the next level.
