Wichita Trinity Softball – Team of the Month – Presented by Visit Wichita

The Wichita Trinity softball team took third at the 3A Tournament last year, after narrowly falling to Frontenac in the semifinals.

Head coach Steve Cross thinks this year’s team could be even better.

“This is the most athletic roster we have ever had, so we would like to see the team pick up where they left off last season,” Cross said. “My expectations are for them to compete again for the league title and advance through regionals to state. We also have several girls on pace to break school records this season.”

The Knights are led by two dominant starting pitchers: Dominique Schellenger and Liberty Lewis. The duo combined to go 17-4 with an ERA average under 1.50.

On offense, Madison Cross and Ava Lay combined for 61 hits and 61 stolen bases. The two caused havoc all season long.

“In Matthew 17:20, the parable of the mustard seed illustrates how something small can have such a big impact,” said Coach Cross. “Our seniors have made this their motto to fall back on during the mountains and valleys of this season. Our goal this year is to focus on doing the small things we need to do to put ourselves in position to win games.”

While Trinity wants to get back to the state tournament, the journey to get to that point is what they are looking forward to.

“A successful season for our team would be seeing our players grow into strong confident women, making memories they will never forget, balancing school, and sharing how God has worked in their lives,” said Cross.
