Sterling’s Cameron Morris – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Sterling College

While a new football season always brings excitement, Sterling’s Cameron Morris is looking forward to something beyond wins and losses. The senior is eager to help shape the next chapter of the Black Bears by building relationships with a new group of teammates and continuing to strengthen the program’s culture.

“I’m most excited about getting to play with a new group of guys and growing with them and continuing to build a good culture,” Morris said.

Morris has spent the offseason preparing for that opportunity both physically and mentally. His routine has included morning weightlifting sessions, speed training, twice-weekly football practices and a team camp, all designed to have him ready for another productive season.

After recording 98 tackles last fall — including 48 solo stops and 50 assisted tackles, averaging 8.9 tackles per game with three tackles for loss — Morris knows production alone won’t define his senior year. Instead, he wants to become a stronger leader for a team that features several younger players.

“Becoming more of a leader” has been his biggest offseason focus, Morris said. “Getting to know some younger guys and working with them to understand them and hold people accountable and be respectful men.”

That emphasis on leadership extends beyond the football field. Morris hopes to set an example through his work ethic and character while helping establish the standard for the program.

His individual goals mirror that approach.

“I want to become more of a leader on and off the field,” Morris said. “As a group, we just want to keep growing our culture day by day and work hard every day on the small details.”
