Looking for the chance to win back-to-back state titles, Sterling senior Blake Smith hopes all the work he has put in will help him and his team do just that.
“Not a lot of people even get the chance to win one so the chance to win back-to-back years is awesome. And then just getting to play basketball with all of my best friends is super fun and I’m looking forward to it as well,”
Blake Smith said.
Last year Sterling won the 2A state championship 58-45 over Moundridge. Smith mostly plays small forward for the Bears but moves around and was a big part of Sterling’s success.
This year Smith is looking to be a more consistent presence for the Bears.
“I went through a stretch in the middle of last year where I wasn’t as good as I should’ve been and so being more consistent throughout the entire year would be huge,” Smith said. “ I’ve tried to set very specific goals in my
workouts and accomplish very specific things so I think staying true to the plan is something that has helped me with that.”
Sterling head coach Derek Schneider has complete faith in his senior leader.
“Blake is a great player with a high basketball IQ and a very strong skill set. He can score from all spots on the floor and has smooth, fluid motions finishing around the rim. Off the court Blake is a great kid. He is a person of
integrity and can be counted on to represent our team and school well,” Schneider said.
