After finishing as runner-up the last two seasons to Lebo, Hanover was finally able to get over that hump and become a state champion again.
“This was a big one for us,” head coach Melissa Holle said. “We have come in at runner-up the past two seasons to Lebo. They took away our chance at a three peat and to take it from them was bittersweet. This was the goal of the girls the entire year. This is what they worked for and where they wanted to be. Emotions were high after this one. This is a special team and the way the girls gelled during the year was amazing. I couldn’t ask for a better ending to a great season.”
The Wildcats were on a mission all season, determined to bring home another state championship.
“We did expect to win this year,” Holle said. “We had an incredible regular season only losing one game to 3A Beloit in the Republic County Tournament championship. We took our league’s regular season and tournament. The girls worked extremely hard all year for this.”
