Salina Sacred Heart’s Maddox Wells – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Timothy VonDonge Farm Bureau Financial Services

As a sophomore quarterback last year, passing for 1,549 yards and 17 touchdowns, junior Maddox Wells is looking to step into a leadership role as an upperclassman.

Wells gets high praise from Salina Sacred Heart head coach Ryan Krajicek, not just for his athletic skill, but his character as well.

“Maddox is a gifted three-sport athlete that impresses me every time I watch him play. He is a competitor in every sense of the word and elevates those around him. Last season, he completed 62 percent of his passes, leading the highest scoring offense Sacred Heart has seen since the 2017 season. Maddox is an honor roll student who is just as enjoyable to teach as he is to coach,” Krajicek said.

Wells is always looking to improve, this offseason he focused on his field vision and pre-snap reads.

“I’ve been talking to my coaches and understanding what I should look for pre-snap and what options I have instead of just fixating on one person,” Wells said.

Losing some important receivers in the last graduating class, Wells is hoping to see his rushing yards improve. Also, with the loss of previous seniors, Wells is going to have to step into a leadership role.

“Knowing that I have to step into a leadership role, especially after how much I looked up to the guys last year motivates me,” Wells said.
