As he prepares for his sophomore season, Salina Sacred Heart offensive and defensive lineman Landon Pfeifer isn’t focused on individual accolades. Instead, he’s concentrating on doing the little things that help his team succeed.
“I’m excited to get back on the field with my teammates and compete every snap,” Pfeifer said. “I really enjoy the physical side of football and the challenge of playing offensive line. It’s a position where your job is to do the little things right, protect your teammates, and help the offense succeed. I’m looking forward to seeing all the work we’ve put in together pay off this season.”
After earning a varsity letter as a freshman while starting on both the offensive and defensive lines, Pfeifer has spent the offseason working to elevate every aspect of his game.
“Going into my sophomore year, my main focus has been getting stronger, faster, and improving my footwork and technique,” he said. “I learned a lot as a freshman playing on both sides of the ball, and I’ve worked hard to build on that experience.”
Pfeifer has taken advantage of every opportunity to improve, attending Top Prospect and Big Man camps while training at Sharp Performance Football Academy alongside offensive and defensive linemen from across central and western Kansas.
“Working alongside other athletes and learning from great coaches has really helped me improve,” he said.
One of Pfeifer’s biggest areas of emphasis has been becoming more physical at the line of scrimmage while sharpening his pass protection.
“I want to become more physical at the line of scrimmage and continue improving my pass protection,” he said. “As an offensive lineman, every play matters, and I want to be someone my teammates and coaches can count on in any situation.”
He said the work has come through countless repetitions and competitive training sessions.
“I spent a lot of time working on technique through drills, footwork, and repetition during training sessions,” Pfeifer said. “Competing against other linemen at camps and football training has helped me become more confident and improve my fundamentals.”
While individual improvement remains important, Pfeifer’s goals center on helping the Knights win.
“My personal goal is to keep improving every week and do my job every play,” he said. “If I can protect my quarterback, open up running lanes, and help our offense and defense, then I’ve done what my coaches and teammates need from me.”
The team has its sights set on bigger accomplishments after last season ended in heartbreaking fashion.
“Our team wants a winning season and to bring home a district title,” Pfeifer said. “Falling short in overtime last year was tough, but we’re ready to put in the work and finish what we started.”
