Having to overcome injuries is sadly a reality that Minneapolis junior Grant Rice has had to live multiple times during his high school career.

Rice has dislocated his non-throwing arm twice and had surgery on it as well. Also Rice dislocated his ankle two months before last season started and now, Rice is dealing with a dislocation of his throwing shoulder.

All these injuries have not stopped Rice’s love for the game and motivation to keep playing it.

“I’ve always loved sports growing up as a kid and the thing that motivates me is I’ve had to battle through so many injuries that when I’m not hurt I just want to prove to people what I can do,” Rice said.

Rice is a very versatile player. He is not just a pitcher, he is everything his team needs: catcher, infield and even outfield. With the dislocation of his throwing shoulder after football season his throwing had been greatly affected.

“One area I want to improve on this year is my throwing. A couple weeks ago I couldn’t even throw the ball 10 feet because of shoulder problems and now I can almost throw 60 feet,” Rice said.

Injuries are not the only thing that defines Rice, Head coach Tyker Konrade gave his character and attitude high praise.

“Grant is a great leader on our team. Even as a sophomore last year, the players looked to him because of his baseball experience and leadership skills.  We are expecting his hard work and guidance toward teammates to continue into this season,” Konrade said.
