After placing sixth at state last year, Lyons senior Hendrix Starbuck is excited for his last year of high school track and field.
“I’m most excited to throw at new meets and meet new people this season. I’m also ready for the competition. I love to compete and push myself to be my best,” Starbuck said.
Head coach Carl Nolan not only praises Starbuck for his dedication and competitiveness at the highest level, but also his character.
“Beyond his athletic success, what truly stands out about Hendrix is his character. He is respectful, coachable, and consistently leads by example. He supports his teammates, encourages others to push themselves, and maintains a positive attitude in both victory and adversity. His work ethic and humility make him someone younger athletes can look up to,” Nolan said. “Hendrix represents what it means to be both a strong competitor and an even better person. I am proud of his accomplishments and even more proud of the young man he continues to become.”
Over the offseason was when Starbucks pushed himself the hardest to prevent his craft.
“During the offseason, I attended camps and trained hard, even though rough weather conditions, to improve my performance. One area I want to continue improving in is being a better leader by helping my teammates grow and holding them accountable,” Starbuck
As a leader for the Lyons, Starbuck has big goals for himself during his senior season as well as his team.
“My main goal this season is to break both of my school records. On my team, I take on a leadership role in the throws group, and I’m motivated to help us succeed. My biggest motivation this year is to win a state title and continue becoming a better person both on and off the field,” Starbuck said.
