Sophomore Chelsie Brown set her sights on an undefeated season and a state championship, and she achieved just that with a 36-0 record. Her remarkable performance made history, as she became the first girl from Sterling to win a state championship since 1986. Brown’s relentless determination and drive propelled her to this impressive milestone, solidifying her place in Sterling’s sports legacy.
“Completing the season undefeated was a big goal for me, and it felt good since I had worked hard to win that many matches in a row,” Brown said. “It is nice to think I ended the season with a bang and to be undefeated.”
Despite facing some adversity this year to complete her undefeated season, Brown never wavered as she has dealt with her own adversity of being hard of hearing her whole life. Something she has adapted to but never let it stand in her way of achieving greatness.
The mindset of Brown is what carried her over the hump and past her competitors time and time again.
“I just kept saying to myself over and over that I WILL win state,” Brown said.
