Ell-Saline’s Landon May – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Advanced Physical Therapy

Track season is underway for senior Landon May of Ell-Saline High School. May covers the distance events, competing in the 800m, the mile, or the 400m as well as the 4×800 relay, and is looking forward to seeing time improvement throughout the season. “I’m most excited to see how much I can improve my times in the 800 and 400 this season,” May shared with Vype Magazine.

Besides individual time cuts, May is excited to see what the 4×800 relay can do this season, and running alongside teammates is a bonus. “We’ve put in a lot of work, so I am looking forward to seeing that pay off at meets and hopefully making it to state later in the season,” he said.

Before the season began, May stayed active by running regularly to maintain endurance leading into the season and completing consistent weekly workouts. Training in the offseason also helped May to improve an area he felt he was lacking. “I wanted to improve my overall speed in my ability to maintain my race speed for a longer period of time,” he shared. He used these training sessions to become faster and build endurance to hold speed throughout the race.

Last season, May posted an impressive 2:07 in the 800m, but has his eyes set on breaking the 2:00 minute mark in this event. In addition to the 800m, last season, May also posted a 4:58 in the mile and 54 seconds in the 400m. The 4×800 relay’s fastest time is 8:29.

Outside of track, May plays basketball, football, and golf, and enjoys art, the outdoors, and video games. After graduation, May plans to attend Kansas State University and major in kinesiology with the goal of becoming a physical therapist.
