Making it to state the last three years, senior shortstop Thomas Keener is hoping to end his final year of high school baseball the right way and leave his own legacy.
“I want to keep moving the tradition and success recently built in the right direction. Having a good year would help transition to the next level,” Keener said.
Keener was named all-League utility the last couple of seasons, and hopes to become even more important and make an even greater impact for Abilene this season.
“Thomas has hit in the top of our lineup the last couple of seasons, he can play just about anywhere. Which has been a huge plus for us because of the depth we’ve had in the infield. He has some of the best hands in the league,” head coach Travis Bartley said. “Thomas has a bright future ahead of him, whatever he decides to do in life I know he will be very successful.”
Being an important piece for Abilene the last couple seasons, Keener has the experience and knowledge to be the leader this team needs but he has some things he needs to work on first.
“As a senior this year I am going to be a leader. My job will be to hold everyone accountable and keep their attitudes and effort up. I will have to be more vocal than years past,” Keener said.
