Abilene’s Lola Rock is especially excited to see how the Cowboys develop throughout the season, with communication and teamwork among her biggest priorities.

“I’m most excited about getting to play with my teammates and seeing how much we can grow together throughout the season,” Rock said. “I’m especially looking forward to improving our communication on the court, competing in close games, and hopefully making a deep run in the postseason.”

Rock enters the season with plenty of experience and production. Last season, she earned NCKL honorable mention all-league honors while leading Abilene with 39 aces, 195 kills and 225 digs.

While she hopes to build on those numbers, Rock spent the offseason focusing on becoming a stronger and quicker player.

“During the offseason, I have worked hard in the weight room and focused on getting some agility training to become stronger, quicker, and more confident on the court,” Rock said.

Confidence and consistency are two areas Rock wants to emphasize during her final season. She has worked to strengthen both her physical skills and mental approach so she can remain steady throughout matches.

“One area I want to improve on this year is confidence and consistency on the court,” Rock said. “During the offseason, I worked on getting stronger and quicker. I also focus on working hard on my skills so I can stay both consistent and confident on the court.”

Rock also wants to become better at responding when things do not go according to plan. Rather than allowing mistakes to linger, she hopes to learn from them and quickly move forward.

“Some goals I have for this season are learning how to be a consistent player, and how to snap back from my mistakes and learn from them,” Rock said.

As a team, Rock wants the Cowboys to focus on communication, accountability and pushing one another every day.

“As a team, I want us to work together, communicate better, and push each other every day to become the best we can be,” Rock said.

With her final season ahead, Rock is hoping the work put in during the offseason translates to success when the matches begin. More importantly, she wants to enjoy the experience and make memories with the teammates who have been part of her volleyball journey.

“I’m also excited to make more memories with my teammates and enjoy my last volleyball season,” Rock said.
