McPherson’s Carmin Pavlovich has put in consistent work during the offseason to prepare for another season. She practices with her sister, Elles, who will be a freshman, while also staying in shape through consistent work in the school weight room and continued softball training.
One area Pavlovich has targeted for improvement is her hitting. She has also worked on her vertical during the offseason, an effort she said has already helped her game.
“I try to work on my vertical in the offseason, which has helped me so far,” Pavlovich said.
Pavlovich enters the season with plenty of experience on the volleyball court. Last season, she recorded 194 kills, 17 blocks, 37 aces and 209 digs while posting an 82% good-dig rate and a 2.54 serve-receive rating. Her performance earned her second-team all-league honors.
McPherson has also relied on Pavlovich as a multi-sport athlete. She helped the Bullpups’ softball team win the Class 4A state championship in 2025, and she has continued to contribute on the softball field.
As she takes on a bigger role, Pavlovich said one of her biggest individual goals is to be someone younger teammates can look up to.
“A goal I have as an individual is to be a great role model for my teammates and to give them the leadership I once received as an underclassman,” Pavlovich said.
That leadership will be important as the Bullpups look to make another deep postseason run. McPherson has established itself as one of the top programs in Class 4A, reaching the state tournament three consecutive seasons entering the 2025 tournament.
For Pavlovich, the team goal is straightforward.
“Now as for my team goal, I hope we make it to state!” she said.
Pavlovich’s athletic career also has a future beyond high school. She plans to attend Hutchinson Community College to continue her softball career while pursuing a degree in physical therapy.
For now, though, her focus remains on making the most of her time with her teammates and helping McPherson reach its goals.
“I’m most excited for this season” because of the opportunity to compete alongside her friends while continuing to play the sport she loves, Pavlovich said.
