McPherson’s Ashton Malm – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Horizon Real Estate

Ashton Malm knows this fall will be one he’ll remember long after the final whistle.

For the McPherson senior wide receiver, the upcoming season represents one last opportunity to share the field with the teammates who have become some of his closest friends while pursuing another memorable postseason run.

“I am really excited to play the sport I love most with my best friends,” Malm said. “It’s the last season I will ever play with the guys I’ve grown up with, so it is definitely something special.”

Malm enters his senior campaign after putting together an impressive junior season. In just nine games, he totaled 1,131 receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns while adding a kickoff return touchdown. He finished the year with 1,500 all-purpose yards, establishing himself as one of Kansas’ most productive playmakers.

Rather than relying on last season’s success, Malm has spent the offseason focused on refining his game.

He credited McPherson’s summer program, led by the Bullpups’ coaching staff, for helping prepare the team for the challenges ahead. Outside of team workouts, Malm has continued training with Jake Sharp and Brian Butler to improve his overall performance.

“We have a phenomenal training program ran by our coaches that our entire team attends during the summer,” Malm said. “I also work out with my trainers Jake Sharp and Brian Butler.”

Malm has also concentrated on becoming a more polished receiver by improving one of the most important aspects of his position.

“Really trying to improve my route running by watching film and taking advice from college coaches,” he said.

His goals for the season reflect both personal ambition and a team-first mindset. While Malm hopes to establish himself as the state’s premier wide receiver, helping the Bullpups make a deep postseason run remains at the forefront.

“My goals are to make a deep playoff run with my squad and be the best WR in Kansas,” Malm said.
