Inman’s Riley Roots – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Fuqua Construction

By Blake Chadwick

Riley Roots is a senior at Inman High School who has built his identity as a distance runner through consistency.

The senior competes in the 1,600 meters, 3,200 meters and 4×800 relay and has become one of the most dependable athletes in the program, contributing at a high level across multiple events.

One of Roots’ biggest strengths is his dedication to the process. He describes himself as someone who works hard year-round, not just during the season but especially in the offseason when development often matters most. That commitment has translated into strong performances and steady growth throughout his high school career.

Roots has been involved in track since junior high, but his impact grew in high school. He owns school records in the 3,200 meters (10:02) and the 4×800 relay (8:25), where he also runs the leadoff leg. Along the way, he has earned state medals in both cross country and track, establishing himself as one of Inman’s top distance runners in recent years. His 1,600-meter personal best of 4:45 further reflects his range and consistency.

“My personal goal is to continue to work hard day in and day out and improve on my times that I got this past season and make it back to state in my events,” Roots said. “The goal I have for the team is to help the 4×800 relay team make it back to state and once again medal.”

He also sees the bigger picture for his program and hopes the boys team can reach its highest potential together.

“It would be a dream of mine as well if the boys team as a whole could win a team state championship,” he said.
