Beloit’s Peyton Remus has been a star player for the Trojans for a while and she doesn’t plan to slow down. Remus was first team all-league and all-state last season.
With countless individual and team goals, some things are just bigger than winning. Remus and the Trojans play their hearts out everyday for a special loved one close to the team.
“Some team goals that I have for this season would be to win the league, place at the Colby Tournament, and make a run in the postseason,” Remus said. “Some individual goals that I have are to be an offensive threat and average more points, rebounds, and assists. My team is playing for a more meaningful purpose this season as our assistant coach has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer. We will strive each day to make her proud.”
Remus prepared for the season by playing and training in the gym, and a special challenge made all the conditioning feel fun.
“I have prepared for this season by playing traveling summer ball,” Remus said. “My team did a lot of open gyms during the summer and we played in some team tournaments. My coach gave the team a challenge to make 8,000 shots during the summer months. So, I spent a lot of time in the gym accomplishing that goal. I wanted to improve my off-the-dribble shot. I have practiced this skill a lot during the summer and off-season.”
The senior knows a long season ahead means countless memories, however one in particular stands out to Remus.
“My favorite basketball memory would be my sophomore season when we knocked off the number two state-ranked team, Phillipsburg,” Remus said. “Everyone in our community was coming to that game to watch Phillipsburg and Taryn Sides. No one thought we had a chance to pull off this upset, so it was extra special when we did.”
