Clay Center’s Miller Coffman – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Hog Wild Pit BBQ

Clay Center’s Miller Coffman and jaw-dropping stats last year. He hit .433 which earned him first team all-league honors.

He hopes for status quo this season as he leads the Tigers.

“My main focus is just to be better than last year,” Coffman said. “Specifically getting on base because that’s my main job for this team.”

Being able to get on base – whether that is with a hit or walk – is crucial to Coffman’s game and it sets the table for the rest of the Clay Center offense.

“I’m good at getting on base,” Coffman said. “I think it’s huge to just have baserunners and an opportunity to score runs, and our team is good at capitalizing when we have runners on base.”

While Coffman’s offensive stats were impressive, he wanted to make better contact at the plate.

“I wanted to hit the ball harder and more often,” Coffman said. “I got a little bigger and worked in the cages quite a bit.”

Despite going 19-6, Clay Center fell in the first round of the Class 4A Tournament a year ago.

Aside from the quick exit at state, Coffman and his teammates have similar goals for 2026.

“Our team always has a few goals, which are to win every game, win regionals, and win state, because losing isn’t fun,” Coffman said.
