Senior Jayren Stutzman of McPherson High School is preparing for an exciting final track and field season as he looks to make an impact across multiple events. A versatile athlete, Stutzman competes in the 100 meters, the 4×100 relay, the 4×400 relay, as well as the long jump and high jump.
As the season approaches, Stutzman is especially excited about the potential of the 4×100 relay team. With a strong group of athletes returning and several new teammates joining the lineup, he believes the team has a great opportunity to improve on last year’s performances. One of his biggest goals is to help the relay squad set a new school record and surpass the personal best they posted last season. “I’m hoping we can beat our PR from last season,” Stutzman shared.
During the offseason, Stutzman spent much of his time training through the school’s Strength, Power, and Speed (SPS) program. The program has played a major role in preparing him for competition by helping him build strength, explosiveness, and overall athletic performance. He credits the coaching staff for creating a training system that benefits athletes across multiple sports.
Last year, Stutzman delivered strong individual performances as well. He recorded a time of 11.4 seconds in the 100 meters and jumped 18 feet, 8 inches in the long jump, showing his ability to contribute to both sprinting and field events.
Outside of track, Stutzman is also a member of the football team at McPherson High School. After graduation, he plans to continue his athletic and academic career at McPherson College, where he will play football while majoring in exercise science.
