Being ranked third at the 120 class in the preseason Class 4A rankings, Clay Center’s Thayne Pfizenmaier is already being tabbed as one of the wrestlers to beat for a state championship.
But what if Pfizenmaier has a few new tricks up his sleeve?
“In the offseason I have gone to a couple wrestling camps and learned some new moves that will be useful,” Pfizenmaier said. “I have also been going to the open room our coach and vice principal open to let us go in and wrestle around when we want.”
There is one area where Pfizenmaier is focused on improving.
“I’m wanting to improve on my bottom position and not let anybody hold me down this season,” Pfizenmaier said. “I have been working with my dad with some good and quick ideas to get out and always also stick to the basics.”
While Pfizenmaier wants to win and become a state champion, he also wants to enjoy the ride along the way.
“What I’m most excited for with this upcoming season is just being able to enjoy the sport of wrestling and the friends I’m with on the way,” Pfizenmaier said. “I’m excited to go out to the mat and give it my all and be happy winning or losing just having the privilege to wrestle is the best.”
