Abilene’s Heath Hoekman was a first team all-league lineman last season. Returning this year, it’s so much more than just a game for Hoekman.

“I’m excited to play with my teammates this year, especially my twin brother who is our running back,” Hoekman said. “I’m excited to block for him and to be a part of his season.”

With a lot on the line for Abilene, Hoekman is hoping to help better the team’s winning record, and he’s excited to put his leadership role to good use.

“This season I’m hoping to have a better record than our record last year and have a solid run in the playoffs,” Hoekman said. “I think we improved with leadership this year as people have stepped up and started to take responsibility and to hold each other accountable.”

A big home opener for Abilene excites Hoekman, along with their annual rivalry games.

“I’m excited for our home opener against Clay Center,” Hoekman said. “I’m also very excited for the district rivalry against Chapman. It is the longest rivalry west of the Mississippi and it is always an intense game with a great atmosphere.”

Hoekman has big plans to continue his athletic journey after high school, but is unsure as to where at the moment.

“I am going to play college baseball, and as of now I’m uncommitted but that is my plan for after high school,” Hoekman said.
