Ashton Bletscher, senior third-baseman and pitcher for Beloit, is also a three-year starter in baseball and a highly decorated athlete in football and baseball. He would love to finish his career off strong and leave his legacy on the Trojans’ proud program, “My role is to encourage and pump up my teammates. We have some younger guys that may feel a little intimidated. I have experience when it comes to being a young starter, so I’ll help push them through that to become the best they can be.”
The younger Trojans need only look at Bletscher’s accolades to understand that he is a player worth emulating. Bletscher earned All-NCAA Honorable-Mention as a senior in football. In baseball he was an All-League third-basemen and was also named Honorable-Mention All-State as a junior.
Bletscher is confident the Trojans can make a run in the post-season, after finishing last year with a record of 18-12. Bletscher was a big part of the Trojans’ success, batting .352 and metaphorically setting the table for his teammates, “I take great pride in being the guy who is going to put the ball in play when we need baserunners.”
Bletscher will also aid the Trojans on the mound. He spent a lot of effort in the off-season tweaking his pitches, “I struggled a little with my curveball last year, but I have great coaches that got that fixed quickly.”
Back to that legacy that Bletscher wants to leave, “More than anything, I look forward to playing with a great group of guys. They have my back and know that I have theirs. We have great potential to make a run at state. I want to leave a lasting impression to show the younger guys what it means to be a Trojan baseball player.”
Bletscher plans to attend Fort Hays State to major in Informatics. He would like to become a Cyber Security Professional.
